Purpose: 

The goal of Columbus Whitewater Games is to be a family-friendly event that gets everyone excited about being outside together. The Games will be a hometown throw-down, all-out-fun competition for the beginner, intermediate and advanced level paddlers. These events are designed bring delight for the participants and spectators. Events include: Freestyle, Boatercross, Downriver SUP, King of the Wave, Great Watermelon Chase, SUP with a PUP, Hooligan Race (see full descriptions below). Prizes and bragging rights will be awarded for each event.

Vendors: 

Retail, food and beer vendors will be set up on RiverWalk Island and along the RiverWalk. If you are interested in vending, email Melissa Hargrove at HargroveAdventures@gmail.com.

The first year a competitor can compete in a Junior competition is the year that their 14th birthday falls in. The last year they can compete in a Junior category is the year that their 18th birthday falls in.
Waiver *
In Consideration of Chattahoochee Rafting Company, Inc. furnishing services and/or equipment to enable me to participate in rafting, ropes course, horseback riding, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, camping, tubing, and other activities, I agree as follows: I fully understand and acknowledge that outdoor recreational activities have (a) inherent risks, dangers, hazards, and such exist in my use of Chattahoochee Rafting Company, Inc. equipment and my participation in such activities; (b) my participation in such activities and/or use of such equipment may result in injury or illness including, but not limited to, bodily injury, disease, strains, fractures, partial and/or total paralysis, death or other ailments that could cause serious disability; (c) these risks and dangers may be caused by the negligence of the owners, employees, officers, or agents of Chattahoochee Rafting Company, Inc., Uptown Whitewater Management L.L.C., Columbus Consolidated Government, Georgia Power, Phenix City Alabama and the United States; the negligence of the participants, the negligence of others, accidents, breaches of contract, the forces of nature, or other causes. Risks and dangers may arise from foreseeable or unforeseeable causes including, but not limited to, guide decision making, including that a guide may misjudge terrain, weather, trail or river route location, and water level, risks of falling out of or drowning while in a raft, canoe, or kayak and such other risks, hazards, and dangers that are integral to recreational activities that take place in a wilderness, outdoor, or recreational environment; and (d) by my participation in these activities and/or use of equipment, I hereby assume all risks and dangers and all responsibility for any losses and/or damages whether caused in whole or in part by the negligence or other conduct of the owners, agents, officers, or employees of Chattahoochee Rafting Company, Inc., Uptown Whitewater Management, L.L.C., Columbus Consolidated Government, Georgia Power, Phenix City Alabama or the United States, or by any other person. In addition, I hereby grant permission to Chattahoochee Rafting Company, Inc. to make and use for promotion or other purposes, photographic records without recourse or compensation to me. I, on behalf of myself, my personal representatives, and my heirs hereby voluntarily agree to release, waive, discharge, hold harmless, defend, and indemnify Chattahoochee Rafting Company, Inc., the Uptown Whitewater Management, L.L.C., Columbus Consolidated Government, Phenix City Alabama and the United States, and its owners, agents, officers, and employees from any and all claims, actions, or losses for bodily injury, property damage, wrongful death, loss of services, or otherwise which may arise out of my use of Chattahoochee Rafting Company, Inc. equipment or my participation in Chattahoochee Rafting Company, Inc. activities. I specifically understand that I am releasing, discharging, and waiving any claims or actions that I may have presently or in the future for the negligent acts or other conduct by the owners, agents, officers, or employees of Chattahoochee Rafting Company, Inc., the Uptown Whitewater Management, L.L.C., Columbus Consolidated Government, Phenix City Alabama and the United States. The venue of any dispute that may arise out of this agreement or other-wise between the parties to which Chattahoochee Rafting Company, Inc. or its agents is a party shall be either the Phenix City, Alabama Justice Court or State Supreme Court in Russell County Alabama. I HAVE READ THE ABOVE WAIVER AND RELEASE. BY SIGNING IT, I AGREE IT IS MY INTENTION TO EXEMPT AND RELIEVE CHATTAHOOCHEE RAFTING COMPANY, INC., UPTOWN WHITEWATER MANAGEMENT, L.L.C., COLUMBUS CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT, GEORGIA POWER, PHENIX CITY ALABAMA, AND THE UNITED STATES FROM LIABILITY FOR PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR WRONGFUL DEATH CAUSED BY NEGLIGENCE OR ANY OTHER CAUSE.
 

Events

Freestyle: Cadet, Junior, Intermediate and Expert classes.  This will be a high-water event where participants will try to pull off the biggest tricks they can in their kayak in a set amount of time.  ICF and hometown throw-down rules will apply.  Cadet class rides will be scored on Great Wave in a 20 minute, jam session.  Junior, Intermediate and Expert class rides will be scored on Good Wave taking the highest of 3, 1 minute rides.  According to how many compete, there might be a prelim and final event.  Prelims will be scored combining 2, 1 minute rides, per athlete. Prizes will be awards to first, second, and third place for both Cadet and Junior Classes.  A cash prize will be awarded to first, second and third place for both Intermediate and Expert classes. Participants of this event must be outfitted with a PFD and Helmet.

Boatercross: Junior, Intermediate and Expert classes. This is a low water event, where athletes will run in heats around buoys down Wave Shaper and Good Wave to a designated finish line. According to how many compete in this event, the first one or the first and second athlete to cross over the predetermined finish line, will move onto the next round of heats. The course will change based on the class that is competing. Please note this is not an eight-ball event. Any cadet that would like to compete in the Boatercross, may do so as a Junior and will need to let the event organizer know at packet pick-up. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place for the Junior Class in the final heat. A cash prize will be awarded to first, second and third place for both Intermediate and Expert classes in the final heat. Participants of this event must be outfitted with a PFD and Helmet.

Downriver SUP Board:  Open Class. This is a low water event where athletes will run in heats down Wave Shaper while trying to stay on their SUP Boards. According to how many compete in this event, the first one or the first and second athlete to cross over the predetermined finish line on their SUP Board, will move onto the next round of heats. Each athlete that falls off their SUP Board and does not complete the race on their Board through Good Wave will be apart of the LCH (Last Chance Heat).The winner of that heat will move onto finals. Prizes will be awards to first, second and third places in the finals heat. Participants of this event must be outfitted with a PFD and Helmet.

King of the Wave:  Open Class.  This event will occur as the water is rising and will last a total of 15 minutes.  Each participant will start by running down Wave Shaper in a kayak to Good Wave.  After each athlete’s initial run, they can choose where they want to re-enter Good Wave. There will be four ways to win prizes at this event. 1) First athlete to surf in Good Wave for 5 total seconds.  2) The athlete that holds the longest surf. 3) The last athlete that is surfing in Good Wave after 15 minutes.  4) The athlete that has the best style when surfing on Good Wave. Participants of this race, must be outfitted with a PFD and Helmet.

Great Watermelon Chase:  Open Class.  This will be a low water event where athletes will run in heats down Wave Shaper in a kayak as they chase a floating watermelon.  Whoever is holding or is the last that touches the watermelon as they go through good wave, moves onto the next round of heats. A prize will be awarded to the first place winner of the final heat . Participants of this event must be outfitted with a PFD and Helmet.

 

Family Events

SUP with a PUP:  One class fits all.  This will be a low water event where athletes will race around a designated course on SUP Boards with their canine. Prizes and/or money will be awarded for first, second and third places in the final heat for this event. Participants of this event must be outfitted with a PFD.  A helmet is optional, but highly recommended.

Hooligan Race:  An inflatable class.  This will be a low water event individuals or teams will bring an inflatable to parade down Wave Shaper and Good Wave ending in the eddy below Wave Shaper Island.  Over Good Wave, money bags will be suspended containing $10, $20 and $30 prizes that individuals or teams will have to jump for if they want the money. This is an all-in, let us get the crowd on their feet, screaming and yelling event.  Creativity and style are definitely in play. Winners of first, second and third place bragging rights, will be based upon spectator applause and cheers. Participants of this event must be outfitted with a PFD and Helmet.
